inPLACE Design participated in a tour of some of Baltimore’s urban farms on April 30th. AIA Baltimore COTE and the Farm Alliance of Baltimore City sponsored the annual urban farm bike ride. The 15-mile ride stopped at a number of urban farms between Druid Hill Park and Clifton Park.
“These farms provide affordable local sustainable fresh food sources and promote a positive community activity.”
Urban farms support communities and build healthy connections to food in places that are often considered “food deserts.” They add greenery to cities reducing the heat island effect, reduce harmful storm water run-off, and decrease the “food miles” linked to long-distance shipping.
Farms visited included Real Food Farm, Urban Pastoral, Strength to Love Farm, and Whitelock Community Farm. The money raised was donated to the participating urban farms.
