inPLACE Design’s founder Dustin Watson moderated a panel discussion at Bisnow’s – Baltimore State of the Market 2019. The panel included Brian Gibbons of Greenberg Gibbons Commercial, Daniel Klein of Klein Enterprises, Steven Siegal of Weller Development, and Michael Ricketts of Gilbane Building Company. The discussion was focused on major real estate projects in the region.
Some thoughts that came out of the discussion include:
The bottom line in today’s development is about experience and being memorable. Budgets in these areas are increasing but programming is key to making them successful.
Preakness uneasiness is weighing heavy on the city and the urgency is felt to shore up areas around the track as well as other depressed areas in the city.
Co-working is still strong and co-living has hit Baltimore with the construction start of Wheelhouse. This may be the next big trend.
Opportunity zones are a big facilitator in getting developers and tenants eager to move to parts of the city that have been underdeveloped.
The much-anticipated Port Covington is to begin construction of the first major buildings this year.
